San Luis Obispo’s Day continues to compete

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo senior Sharon Day, a Costa Mesa High product, will try to recapture the NCAA championship in the high jump today at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Day, who won the NCAA title in the high jump in 2005, was one of 16 athletes clearing 5 feet, 9 3/4 inches in Wednesday’s preliminaries, which were delayed two hours by lightning and thunderstorms.
Day passed at 5-7 and cleared the bar at both 5-8 1/2 and 5-9 3/4 on her first try. Today’s women’s high jump final is set to begin at 2:45 p.m.
Day has the top mark in the NCAA this year, clearing 6-4 3/4 .
