Volunteer makes time contribution
The Laguna Beach Police Department recognized one of its most dedicated volunteers at a recent Citizen’s on Patrol (C.O.P.) luncheon.
Jean Lamphere has donated more than 10,000 hours to the citizens of Laguna Beach through her volunteer activities. At today’s estimated volunteer pay rate of $19.51, this means she has saved the city nearly $200,000 by volunteering her time.
Lamphere started her “career†with the department in 1994. She was one of the original RSVP program (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) members.
Lamphere was one of the first volunteers to patrol the streets of Laguna — in an old Chevy Caprice — on the lookout for suspicious activity and helping out neighborhood watch groups.
Soon she found her special niche in the department. After a robbery homicide in 1995, Lamphere went to work in the property and evidence room. She assisted with the voluminous amount of evidence booked after the incident, and she learned much from the property/evidence technician. This became Lamphere’s area of expertise for the last 13 years.
The volunteer program now has 25 members.
