Alumni gets best of current Breakers
The Laguna Beach High alumni defeated the boys’ volleyball team on May 2 for the third consecutive year, in a heated five-game match with scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-10.
The former volleyball alums swept the Breakers in the first game, but the younger boys pushed back harder in the second to defeat their opponent by three points. The Breakers again lost the third game, but came back fired up in the fourth where they held the alumni scoreless until the 11th point. They just couldn’t keep the fire lit long enough in the fifth, handing the alums “†including Laguna coach Lance Stewart “†a win over the 2008 team.
The annual event was hosted by the Laguna Beach Volleyball Boosters in efforts to raise money for the team. Generous prizes, including a two-year prepaid lease on a McKenna car, and sports and concert tickets were auctioned off during the event.
