Area teams head north for Arcadia Inviational

WHEN: Opening Ceremonies start at 5 p.m.
Corona del Mar High and Newport Harbor athletes will be competing tonight against some of the nation’s best at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational.
Twenty-three national records have been set at Arcadia, and it’s seen some of America’s best track and field competitors. As many as a reported 101 U.S Olympians competed there as high school athletes.
Senior Shelby Buckley and junior Kim Condino will both compete in the 800 meters, and Buckley will run in the 1,600, which she won handily at the Trabuco Hills Invitational.
Blaine Bolus is the only male representative for the Sea Kings. He will compete in the triple jump.
Sophomore Marisa Cummings, junior Claire Schmidt, junior Tina Theriot, and Condino are running in the distance medley.
The Sailors are bringing a small cadre of boys. Sophomore Cecil Whiteside and senior Nate Talbott will compete in the shot put and discus throw.
Newport Harbor junior Jake Dawson is running in the 5,000 meter race. Seniors Rex Nelson, Bucko Theriot, Murphy Hitchcock, and Michael Puncel are competing in the distance medley.
