MEN’S BAKSETBALL
Vanguard 85, San Diego Christian 75
EL CAJON — The Lions extended their winning streak to four games Tuesday night, riding a 20-point performance from Greg Gusiff in the Golden State Athletic Conference game.
Gusiff was three-for-five from the three-point line, while Dennis Heenan was four-for-six against San Diego Christian (5-19, 2-14 GSAC).
Greg Scott had 12 points and 14 assists.
Despite a 27-point effort from Bayo Arigbon, the Hawks still dropped their tenth loss in 11 games.
With the win, the Lions (17-7, 11-5 in conference) moved into first place in the GSAC.
The Lions will play at Chapman Thursday at 7 p.m.

EL CAJON — The Lions held off a second-half comeback attempt by the Hawks Tuesday night, continuing their stronghold on a Golden State Athletic Conference tie for first place with Pointa Loma Nazarene.
The Hawks, led by Courtney Ash, went on a 21-9 run to start the second half, but only came within four points of the Lions’ lead.
Junior Lauren Gregory had a season-high 21 points, while Melissa Cook posted 20 points and 11 rebounds for Vanguard (19-3, 15-1 in conference).
The Lions play host to ninth-ranked Azusa Pacific Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Ryan Sheeks’ sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the ninth inning brought in the game-winning run Tuesday, helping the Pirates win their sixth straight nonconference game.
Kyle Muhlsteff led off the ninth with a single. He advanced to second base on a passed ball and third on Brett Wallach’s sacrifice bunt. Palomar (5-9) tried to intentionally walk Sheeks before the pitcher, with a 2-2 count, left one over the strike zone for Sheeks to hit.
Wes Kartch went two for three and scored twice for OCC (12-2-1), which is 7-0-1 at home this season.
The Pirates play at Southwestern today at 2 p.m.

Doubleheader
SAN BERNARDINO — Vanguard University split a nonconference doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino, winning the first game, 1-0, then losing, 12-3, Monday.
Freshman designated hitter Stephanie Leisenring hit a home run in the fourth inning to help lead Vanguard (10-2) to the win. Lions freshman pitcher Patricia Olvera threw 11 strikeouts, walked none and allowed six hits in her complete game to improve to 4-0.
Cal State San Bernardino (9-11-2), which had a six-run second inning, had 15 hits en route to its victory. Junior Sarah Howe had one hit and two runs for Vanguard.
The Lions play host to Southern Oregon today in a doubleheader that starts at 1:30 p.m.
