Getting ready for Lenten series
Lent begins this year on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 6, commemorating the time when Jesus withdrew into the wilderness for 40 days of prayer and reflection in preparation for death and new life.
Laguna Presbyterian Church is hosting two Lenten events. Ash Wednesday Communion Service will be at 7 p.m. in the refurbished Fellowship Hall of Laguna Presbyterian Church on Second Street.
A five-week Lenten series will explore the “Gospel of John.” Small groups will meet at varying times of the day or evening, and childcare is available upon request. Questions relate to the content of John’s Gospel, and to its meaning in our lives. Discussions correspond to each Sunday’s Sermon, beginning Feb. 10, and participants may attend either the 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. session but it is not necessary to attend the worship service in order to participate in the small group.
There is no charge for either event. Reservations for childcare can be arranged by contacting Lisa Wilhelm at (949) 494-7555. To check the schedule or sign up for a group meeting, contact Kathy Sizer at (949) 494-7555. For more information, check the church’s website www.lagunapres church.org.
Celebrate ‘Super Sunday’ morning
Laguna Presbyterian Church Deacons will host a Parish “Super Sunday” Feb. 3 on the Fellowship Lawn starting at 9:30 a.m., after the 8:30 a.m. service ends. Members and guests will enjoy snacks and team spirit long before the Super Bowl.
Super Sunday offers an opportunity for Deacons, members and friends to get to know one another so they can work together for the common good of the church and community.
January marks the start of the Deacon’s terms of office so this event kicks off another year of service. Everyone is welcome. If it rains, the gathering will move to the Parlor at the corner of Forest Avenue and Second Street. For more information, visit lagunapreschurch.org.
