The Orange County Jets, a 12-and-Under travel baseball team that has a pair of Laguna Beach residents on its roster, won its final three games to capture its division title at the Huntington Beach Championship tournament last weekend.
Bryan Ludloff and Jake Rutherford play for the Jets.
The Jets worked their way back into title contention after dropping its opener, 5-3, to the Long Beach Nomads.
They began their climb back with an easy, 13-1 win over the DirtDogs in their next outing, paced by the strong, one-hit pitching effort of Rutherford.
Nick Grimes had two hits and drove in three runs.
The Jets made it two-straight wins by routing the Cobras, 9-2. Brett Dare hit two home runs and tripled to lead the offense, and Louis Raymond pitched a complete game and picked off a pair of base runners.
Next came an 11-1 rout of the Hurricanes from Orange County, with Ludloff leading the attack with a three for three performance with three runs scored. Aaron Mayer added a triple.
The three wins put the Jets in a rematch with the undefeated Long Beach Nomads for the division championship. This time around, it was no contest as the Jets prevailed, 16-7.
Baron Schwarz established the tone of the game early and set the Jets in motion by hitting a three-run home run in the first inning.
Blake Pender and Grant Dyer both drove in two runs. Pitcher Chris Costello was able to keep the hot-hitting Nomads in check.
