CORONADO — Kaleigh Gilchrist produced four steals, two goals and one assist to help the Sailors to a season-opening win Saturday.

Mimi Bury and Kate Klippert both had three steals and one goal for Newport Harbor, ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason coaches’ poll.

The Sailors will play against Foothill in Sunset League play at Beckman High Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Senior Michelle Figueroa, who earned all-tournament honors, added 11 points, as did senior Kathy Trinh, while junior Amy Gentling contributed 10 points for Costa Mesa (3-3).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Four different players scored for the Sea Kings in the final game of pool play in the Ocean View Tournament Saturday at Ocean View High.

Junior A.J. Rome opened the scoring on a scramble header in the 15th minute.

Senior team captain Lexi Hensen scored from the top of the 18-yard box in the 24th minute, with an assist from Rachel Kierce, who was brought up from the junior varsity for the game, Coach Bryan Middleton said.

Two minutes into the second 25-minute half, junior Cosette Andujar scored, then sophomore Lauren Smits went top shelf to score from 40 yards out to finalize the scoring for CdM (3-3).

WRESTLING

Andrew Pena Tournament

IRVINE — Newport Harbor senior Josh George went 4-0 to win the 140-pound division title at Irvine High Saturday.

George, who is 13-0 this season, defeated Chris Organ of Simi Valley by technical fall in the second period.

Sailors senior Guillermo Perez, who is 11-3, went 4-1 and finished third at 189 pounds.

Also for Newport Harbor Aaron Labrano (215) went 3-2 and finished fourth, as did Cameron Rausch, who was 2-2 in the heavyweight division. Irvine won the tournament. Newport Harbor finished 11th.

Magnolia Dual Tournament

ANAHEIM — Corona del Mar High senior Scott Lineback went 6-0 in the 189-pound weight class to highlight the Sea Kings competitors in action Friday and Saturday at Magnolia High.

Lineback is now 14-0 this season. CdM senior Andrew Halladay went 5-3 in the 160-pound weight class and is now 11-3.
