IRVINE — The seventh-ranked UC Irvine men’s water polo team split its two games Saturday at Anteater Pool.
UCI outscored No. 13 UC San Diego 8-2 in the second half to pull away for the 10-5 win. Junior Cole Bielskis scored three of his game-high four goals in the second half. Cole Bitter, Jamie Frank and Brandon Johnson added two each for the Anteaters and senior goalie Matt Garcia had 14 saves.
Daniel Garcia led the Tritons with three goals.
Sophomore Drac Wigo scored five goals to lead third-ranked Stanford (7-3) past the host Anteaters, 12-5, later Saturday. The Cardinal led 5-0 after one quarter and 8-1 at the half.
Bitter led UCI (7-5) with two goals. The Anteaters played their second straight game without injured seniors Tim Hutten and Colin Mello, the two leading scorers on the team.
UCI faces Long Beach State Sunday at 9:20 a.m. in a consolation semifinal at Anteater Pool. The championship semifinals have USC against UCLA at 10:40 a.m. and California versus Stanford at 12:00 p.m., also at Anteater Pool. The championship game is scheduled for 5:20 p.m.

COSTA MESA — Kelsey Wirt finished with 12 kills and Kim Wynn added 11 kills to lead the No. 15-ranked Lions to a 30-25, 30-25, 30-22 in a Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday.
Meghan Walsh had 19 assists for Vanguard (7-10, 5-7 in conference).

IRVINE — The Anteaters were swept for the first time this season, losing to No. 24-ranked Cal Poly, 31-29, 30-22, 30-28, in a Big West Conference match Saturday.
The Anteaters (15-7, 5-2 in conference) were led by outside hitter Lauren Kellerman, who had 13 kills. Freshman Kari Pestolesi added 10 kills and setter Taryn Robertson had 32 assists.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The UC Irvine women’s cross country team finished fourth of 41 teams Saturday.
Twenty-fourth ranked Texas Tech won the meet with 83 points, No. 5 Arkansas was second with 87, No. 19 Virginia Tech third with 130 and UCI had 195 points.
Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19 minutes, 49.2 seconds at the Agri Park course.
UCI junior Laura Olvera finished ninth with a time of 21:13.0 in the field of 322 runners. Candice Proctor was 16th in 21:30.8 and Samantha Costantini 42nd in 22:03.6. Rounding out the Anteaters’ top seven were Sara Mickelson in 46th place (22:11.1), Lauren Chramosta 99th (23:05.1), Amber Gordon 112th (23:19.9) and Kendall Bruton 114th (23:21.3).
The Anteater men’s squad finished 14th with 442 points in the 32-team field. Ninth-ranked Arkansas was first with 47 points, Abilene Christian second (74) and Virginia Tech third (162).
Shadrack Songok from Texas A&M-Corpus; Christi won the 10,000 meter race in 29:22.1.
Anteater senior Sky Johnston placed 45th with a time of 31:46.8, Nick Mosey was 81st (32:25.8) and Colin Hacker 103rd (32:51.2). Rusty Whisman came in 130th in 33:26.9, Victor Bonilla was 143rd (33:40.3), Bryan Lopez 144th (33:41.9) and Adrian Doty 167th (34:26.9).
Both UCI teams compete in the Big West Conference Championships at San Luis Obispo Oct. 27.
