Purple Pirates pull past Legit

Aggressive teamwork and pinpoint passing propelled the Purple Pirates to a 1-0 victory over Legit in a girls’ AYSO Under-16 Division match Saturday.

The Purple Pirates (Region 55) broke a scoreless game midway through the second half when Maureen Lefebvre overcame a trap and sent a pass to Lindsay Conlisk who in turn lofted a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The scoring play was set up by the passing of Karissa Kearns and Jessica Epperson.

Defensively, Brittany Glassburner stopped every shot on goal attempted by the Pirates (Region 117).

Vikings capture Super Series Title

In their first tournament of the fall season, Huntington Beach-based Vikings Baseball captured first-place in the national 13-and-under division of the Super Series of America’s 2007 Golden State Grand Slam.

The team bounced back from narrow losses in pool play to sweep three playoff games played Sunday at Steed Park in San Clemente. The title qualifies the team for the Super Series Winter National Championship, which begins Dec. 27 in Mesa, Ariz.

In the playoff round of the tournament, the Vikings defeated the So Cal Storm (8-3), top-seed So Cal Riptide (2-1) and in the championship game, beat the Santa Fe Spring Thunder, 12-5.

Key pitching for the Vikings, who played 21 innings in the three playoff games Sunday, came from Jon D’Alessandro and Brock Lundquist. D’Alessandro hurled a complete game in the semifinal win over the Riptide and allowed just one unearned run on four hits.

In his complete game, Lundquist gave up only four hits in the title-game win over Santa Fe Springs and held the Thunder scoreless over the final five innings.

Offensively, the Vikings were led by Frankie Padulo who hit .692 for the weekend with two doubles and two triples, and Jon Abernatha doubled twice and singled in the title game.
