Newport Beach is doing its part to try and keep children safe by hosting a three-hour Keep Your Teen Safe program Wednesday at Newport Harbor High School.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., the program will cover Internet safety, teen alcohol use, substance abuse and DUI’s, teen drivers, California Youth Services, family tragedies with a parent testimonial, teen suicide and depression. There will also be an update by a school resource officer.
The presentation is intended for parents and teens. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. there will be breakout sessions on substance abuse and Internet safety.
The event is a joint effort by the Newport Beach Police Department and the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
“We are pursuing a strategy of education to help teach the youth of our community about substance abuse, Internet safety and the dangers connected with driving a car,” said Newport Beach Councilwoman Leslie Daigle.
