NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High starting running back Ben Frazier will miss Friday’s game at Dana Hills due to a slight medial collateral ligament tear and a bruised knee bone.
Frazier was injured in the first quarter of Thursday’s game against Corona del Mar, and did not return.
Junior Michael Helfrich replaced him and will likely start for the Sailors (2-1) against Dana Hills (0-4).
Frazier was not in pads during practice Wednesday and wore a brace around his left knee, which he was favoring as he walked.
He will be in physical therapy three times a week.
“It shouldn’t be anything serious,” Frazier said. “The doctor said it was really small.”
Frazier may also miss next week’s game against Mira Costa, according to Newport Harbor Coach Jeff Brinkley.
The Tars’ coach is more interested in having Frazier healthy for the Sailors’ Oct. 12 Sunset League opener against Fountain Valley.
