The following is from the Aug. 13, 2007, meeting of the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education.
District will absorb fuel cost increase
The board discussed whether a $20,000 increase in transportation fees for high school athletes due to rising fuel costs should be absorbed by the district or paid by parents.
It approved a motion to cover this year’s increases, but to discuss the increases on an annual basis, with the addition of a cost cap.
Dance assistants discussed
Ten parents attended the meeting in defense of former Laguna Beach High School dance teacher Tod Kubo’s two assistants, whom they had heard were going to be dismissed.
Superintendent Bob Fraisse told the group there are no plans to terminate the assistants’ employment unless the two teachers wish to leave the school.
Preschool successes detailed
Representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach reported on the success of their Even Start Preschool, which was formed in the wake of the departure of the Head Start program from Laguna.
