Sheriff’s deputy taken to hospital after brawl

An Orange County sheriff’s deputy was taken, unconscious, to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian early Friday after being involved in a fight at the Chronic Cantina in Costa Mesa, police said.
The police have no witnesses, and both parties involved in the altercation claim the other initiated the struggle. The deputy may have suffered a fracture to the eye socket, Lt. Dale Birney said.
Though he was not present when the fight broke out, restaurant manager Dan Stratt said it was “nothing serious.”
“There was a little scuffle, and that’s it,” he said.
There were no weapons involved, and no arrests were made.
Attempts to reach the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were unsuccessful.
