ROWERS TO COMPETE
Rory Kew, 16, and Kyle Jones, 15, of the Newport Aquatic Center have made it past the initial heat races in the Junior Single Scull of the U.S. Rowing Club National Regatta being held in Camden, N.J.
The two are representing NAC’s flag at the event in which over 987 athletes are competing.
The two rowers will be race in the semifinals today and then team together to advance to the semifinals in the Junior Double as well.
IN NICE, STOUT’S AN IRONMAN
Former Newport Harbor volleyball player John Stout recently competed in Ironman Nice, France Triathlon, the only Ironman on French territory.
Stout, 27, is a special education coach in Manhattan Beach. He won a free trip from Tri-Athlete Magazine to compete in the June 24 event, which included athletes representing 52 countries. The event consisted of swimming 2.4 miles, riding 112 miles on a bicycle and running a 26.2-mile marathon.
