Michael, Jimmy and Kate Madigan and Ryan and Patrick Kolling of Beacon Bay raised $62.50 from a bake sale they held on Memorial Day for the Legion of Honor Post in Newport Beach.
Oakley Anderson-Moore, a graduate of Costa Mesa High School, recently premiered her film “Pow Wow’s Traveling Picture Show,” in the Calit2 Black Box Theater at UC San Diego.
The film was Anderson-Moore’s senior honors thesis, and it took her a year to complete the 30-minute action film about “three eccentric characters who band together to stop developers from auctioning off their land.”
Thomas Sweeney, a student at Eastbluff Elementary School in Newport Beach, was honored recently for academic excellence at a state ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
Thomas participated in a rigorous test — based on questions used on the SAT or ACT test taken by high school students — given by the center to students in second through sixth grades.
