Pink stays hot, dumps Laguna Niguel in AYSO

The Laguna Pink girl’s soccer team of Region 86 continued on its winning path Saturday by rolling past host and neighboring Laguna Niguel, 6-1, in AYSO action.

The victory upped the Pink’s record to 7-0-2 and kept the squad atop the 10-and-Under standings.

The match was scoreless mid-way through the first half With several players able to penetrate the Laguna Niguel defense, Makenzie Fischer, Francie Holte and Summer Dvorak were able to score goals. Audrey Pillsbury went on to earn a hat trick with three goals of her own.

Johana Abarca, playing right-forward late in the game, sent a sharp centering pass to earn an assist on Dvorak’s goal.

The defense of Brenna Merchant, Kira Thornton, Anika Larsen, and Jamie Duncan limited Laguna Niguel from getting past mid-field throughout the match.

Nina Bo and Brooke Borges each played goalie and at midfielder. Playmaker Peighton McRobie, who played both forward and at midfielder, helped press the attack.

“Even though the girls rotated through several positions, they dominated play,†Laguna Beach Coach Wendi Dvorak said. “They showed why they are in first place.â€

The Laguna Pink play their final regular season match at 9 a.m. Saturday at Thurston Middle School against Mission Viejo.
