BRIEFLY IN PUBLIC SAFETY

Man stabbed after fight in Newport Beach

A Huntington Beach man is expected to recover from a stab wound he received early Saturday outside a bar in Newport Beach, police said.

Police arrested Jasen Meyn, 24, of Reno, Nev., outside Sejour European Bistro and Lounge on Via Lido in Newport Beach early Saturday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for reportedly stabbing a Huntington Beach man after a fight.

Police responded to the call of a stabbing between 1:15 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Jeff Brouwer said, but friends of the alleged victim had already left with the man for Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian’s emergency room. The 34-year-old Huntington man was reportedly stabbed in the lower left portion of his stomach, Brouwer said.

The man who was stabbed was taken from Hoag to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo because it is a trauma center. Police reported he was still in the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Man arrested after low-speed chase

A Bellflower man remained at Orange County Jail on Saturday evening after he reportedly led Newport Beach Police on a low-speed car chase through Corona del Mar on Friday.

Juan Manuel Salinas, 41, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday after police reportedly attempted to pull him over in Corona del Mar around 7 p.m. Friday for a number of vehicle code violations, Sgt. Tom Fischbacher said. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to yield to a police officer, resisting arrest and was evaluated to see if he was a threat to himself.

Salinas reportedly did not stop for police and led them on a chase through Corona del Mar at speeds as low as 10 mph, police said Friday. Salinas pulled into the parking lot at Corona del Mar State Beach and reportedly did circles in the parking lot. At one point, he told police he was going to kill himself and that he was distraught over the death of his son, Fischbacher said.

Salinas was being held at the jail’s Men’s Intake Release Center on $500 bail Saturday.
