2 Mustangs All-CIF

Costa Mesa High junior point guard Michelle Figueroa was named first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA in girls’ basketball to highlight coaches’ selections.

Mustangs senior forward Jennifer Courtney received second-team All-CIF recognition.

Figueroa and Courtney were instrumental in helping Costa Mesa win the Orange Coast League and reach the Southern Section Division IV-AA championship game.

The Mustangs also represented the section in the opening round of the Division IV state tournament.

Figueroa led Costa Mesa (20-12, 8-1 in league) in scoring at 9.8 points per game and also in assists at 4.2 per game.

Courtney, the league Most Valuable Player, averaged nine points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game for the Mustangs, coached by Jim Weeks.
