Collegiate Classic

IRVINE — UC Irvine freshman Alisha Misiata won the women’s shot put with a mark of 47 feet, 6 1/4 inches and senior Ricky Barnes topped the field in the men’s 800 meters in 7 minutes, 52.76 seconds to pace the Anteaters at their Collegiate Classic Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

Misiata’s mark qualified her for the NCAA regional and missed tying a school record by a mere 1 3/4 inches.

Earning runner-up finishes for UCI were: Eric Nyberg (176-8 in the javelin); Jon Wratten, Julian Eison and Ryanb Hershey (all clearing 6-8 3/4 in the high jump); Aaron Corbet (15-1 in the pole vault); Matt Lahti (158-5 in the discus); Oliver Plattner (49.12 in the 400); and Lauren Collins (5-8 3/4 in the women’s high jump).

Barnes and teammate Solomon Tesfaye, who was fourth in the 800 (1:54.93), both qualified for the Big West Conference Championships.

SAN DIEGO — The Lions erupted for big leads early en route to sweeping the Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday.

Derek Craddock went three for four with four RBIs and a home run to key a 17-hit attack in the opening game, in which Dustin Jones pitched a complete-game shutout.

Jones allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked two to improve to 4-1.

In the second game, Jason Machado and Luke Iverson both homered and drove in two for the Lions, who are now 14-11, 11-10 in conference.

Craddock and Adam Hastings both had four hits in two games.

San Diego Christian fell to 14-12, 11-11.
