MARINA HIRES PETRONE

Former Estancia High and Orange Coast College football star Dan Petrone was recently hired as the football coach at Marina.

Petrone was an All-CIF Southern Section selection for Estancia as a 195-pound linebacker. Petrone, who also played tight end, was Sea View League Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 1989, leading the Eagles to a 10-0 regular season record.

He was also named to the Daily Pilot’s Big Team, which was the top player from the Newport-Mesa District high schools from 1965-90. At OCC, he was a two-year starter at inside linebacker. He was the Pirates’ co-captain, second-team All-Mission Conference and an academic All-American.
