Collegiate ClassicIRVINE — UC Irvine senior Ricky Barnes qualified for the NCAA regional in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes, 46.91 seconds Friday.

Barnes’ time was nearly a second faster than the regional-qualifying time as he finished second in the race. Sky Johnston qualified for the Big West Championship with a time of 3:56.46.

Kendall Bruton was third in the 3,000-meter women’s steeplechase in 11:14.10, No. 2 in school history. Tim Hearst was second in the men’s steeplechase (9:19.48). Sara Mickelson was third in the 3,000 meters (9:59.21) and Alisha Misiata was third in the hammer throw (164-6), second all-time at UCI.
