ALL-CIF GIRLS’ WATER POLO:Nine locals named All-CIF

Nine Newport Harbor High and Corona del Mar girls’ water polo players have earned Division I All-CIF honors.
For Newport Harbor, seniors Sarah Roberts and Allyssa Peterson were first-team Division I honorees. For Corona del Mar, seniors Katie Indvik and Sarah Hutchison also made the first team.
The University of Michigan-bound Roberts, also the Sunset League MVP, scored a team-high 67 goals for Newport Harbor (23-11) in helping them reach the CIF Southern Section Division I and Masters Tournament semifinals. Peterson, a set defender, scored 28 goals for the Tars.
Indvik, the Pacific Coast League MVP who is headed to USC, had a team-high 52 goals for the Sea Kings (24-10), who also advanced to the Division I semifinals. Hutchison scored 38 goals for CdM.
CdM senior Cari Levine, headed to Princeton, and Newport Harbor senior Jillian Chiapuzio, headed to Cal, were named second-team All-CIF Division I. Levine scored 37 goals for the Sea Kings and Chiapuzio had 29 for the Tars, including a game-winning sudden-death overtime goal against Santa Margarita in the Division I quarterfinals.
Sea Kings senior Haley Prickett and sophomore Heather Van Hiel, along with Tars junior Mimi Bury, earned third-team honors.
Foothill’s Stanford-bound goalie Amber Oland earned Division I Player of the Year honors.
Knights’ Coach Dave Mikesell shared Coach of the Year with Santa Margarita’s Kevin Ricks.
