Here are a few items the council considered Tuesday.
SENIOR CENTER BOARD
The city now has a clear, written policy for how the council appoints two members to the Costa Mesa Senior Corp.’s board of directors, which operates the city senior center. Traditionally the council appointed the members, but there was no rule on how long they would serve or how the appointments were made.
WHAT IT MEANS
Council appointees to the senior center board will be chosen in April, when most committee appointments are made, and they will serve two-year terms.
EXECUTIVE PAY
The council voted unanimously to raise the salary range for 29 management positions including the city manager, police and fire chiefs, the city engineer and the recreation manager. The change to the pay ranges doesn’t automatically grant raises — they’re still merit-based and at the discretion of the city manager.
The boost is retroactive to Aug. 20, 2006, so management employees would see their current step on the pay scale go up, and that hike will be backdated. It will cost the city $121,890 in salaries and benefits.
