Laguna Pink wins latest two

The Laguna Pink 10-and-Under girls’ soccer team out of AYSO Region 86 remained unbeaten on the season by winning two matches last weekend.
Laguna first defeated Mission Viejo, 4-1, then came back to beat the Laguna Niguel Blue Strikers, 2-0.
Laguna’s defense shined in the shutout of Laguna Niguel. Summer Dvorak, Johana Abarca, Nina Bo and Brooke Borges rotated in goal for the shutout. Tough midfield play by Audrey Pillsbury, Makenzie Fischer and Jamie Duncan kept the Blue Strikers from getting much past midfield. The defense of Kira Thornton, and Anika Larsen allowed few balls to reach the keepers.
Playing at forward position, Larsen scored her first goal of the season that landed just inside the right post. Abarca later scored off a deflection to clinch the match.
Forwards Francie Holte and Nina Bo also had prominent roles in the win.
“All that hard work at practice is really paying off,” Laguna Coach Wendi Dvorak said.
Laguna, now 4-0-1, takes on Laguna Hills at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Thurston Middle School.
“The girls raise their level of play each game,” Assistant Coach Todd Thornton said. “They are really starting to play as a team.”
