Huntington Beach High junior center Jasmine Erving has been named the co-MVP of the All-Sea View League girls’ basketball team for the 2007 season.
Erving’s outstanding year saw her average 16.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and two blocks per game.
“She’s just a great kid, and I’m thrilled that she earned a share of the MVP award,” said Huntington Coach Russell McClurg, whose Oilers shared the Sea View title in their first year in the league. “Overall, I think she is one of the best power post players in Orange County. She’s really strong and has a great touch around the basket.”
Two other Oilers — Noelani Viloria and Rebecca Murraywere also named to the all-league team.
Viloria, a sophomore point guard, averaged 15.3 points and 4.1 assists per game. Murray, a senior forward, averaged 4.5 points and six rebounds a game.
“Noe had a great year,” McClurg said. “We converted her from a two-guard to point guard this year, and she did a great job of running the floor for us.
“I’m really proud for Becca that she was named to the second team. It shows what a strong team we had. Both she and Noe also are great kids.”
Huntington turned in its most successful season in 16 years by finishing 21-6 overall. The Oilers advanced to the second round of the CIF playoffs.
