SCHOOL BOARD PREVIEW
Here are some items the board will consider tonight. The Ensign Intermediate School choir will perform at the opening of the meeting.
SCHOOL CONFIGURATION
After a year-long review process involving about 230 teachers, parents and community members, district staff will recommend maintaining the current grade-level configuration for Costa Mesa-zone schools.
About a year ago, local parents petitioned the district to reconfigure schools to offer students more consistency by extending the zone’s elementary schools through sixth grade.
As it stands, College Park, Paularino and Sonora elementary schools go up to the third grade, Davis Elementary serves the fourth through sixth grades, and Costa Mesa High School takes all secondary students.
The board will vote on whether to accept the staff recommendation. If accepted, no further actions will be taken.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It is unclear how the board will vote.
ADDITIONAL FUNDING
The Children and Families Commission has offered the district an additional $220,000 to cover the costs of the 2006 summer institute of the Learning, Early Intervention and Parent Support (LEAPS) project at Pomona Elementary School and provide an additional school readiness coordinator.
The project is designed to assist students with disabilities and other special needs.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The board will vote to accept the additional funding.
MATH TASK FORCE
The Math Task Force, after assessing students districtwide over the last few months, will present their findings to the board and make recommendations for future changes to the math curriculum.
WHAT TO EXPECT
There is no vote on tonight’s agenda regarding this issue.
