Woman arrested after car hits bicyclist

A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant early Sunday evening after her vehicle struck a man riding a bicycle in Newport Beach.

The victim was heading north on Newport Boulevard south of Hospital Road when he was struck.

Police did not release information about the driver, her vehicle or the victim’s name or age.

The victim was transported to nearby Hoag Hospital. Details of his condition are unknown, but Seagent Lloyd Whisenant said it was believed to be less than serious.

The driver, arrested at approximately 5 p.m., was being held in Newport Beach Jail at press time Sunday.
