IRVINE — Newport Harbor High advanced to today’s semifinals with two wins at Irvine High Friday.

Sarah Roberts scored six goals in an 18-3 first-round win over Cabrillo and Mimi Bury tallied three goals to lead the Sailors (22-10) to an 8-4 win over Agoura and into today’s semifinal against Foothill at 1 p.m. at Irvine High.

IRVINE — The Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team lost to Laguna Beach, 10-7, Friday night in the quarterfinals.

Katie Indvik scored three goals and fellow senior Cari Levine added two for No. 3-seeded CdM (24-8), which plays Montebello in a consolation-bracket game today at 11:30 a.m.

Earlier Friday, the Sea Kings eased past Redlands, 18-3, in the tournament’s first round behind six goals from sophomore Victoria Kennedy.

SANTA ANA — Shortstop Ryan Redding came up with a key defensive play in the fifth inning to help lead the Eagles to a season-opening win in Costa Mesa Division pool play of the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.

With one out and the bases loaded, Redding dived to catch a line drive. While on the ground, he threw the ball to second base where the runner could not get back in time, leading to the double play.

Estancia junior Sam Trancoso led off the top of the fifth with a home run that broke a 2-2 tie and started a five-run inning. Trancoso went two for five with two runs, Tim Morley went two for three and Eddie Tomasek added two RBIs.

ANAHEIM — Corona del Mar senior shortstop Jake Lemmerman went three for three, including a game-tying home run in the sixth inning.

But the host Aztecs scored in their half of the sixth to break the tie Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Senior designated hitter Chris Rosen went two for four for the Sea Kings, who resume tournament play in the Frank Lerner Division today at 10 at Capistrano Valley.

COSTA MESA — John Rybarczyk hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in the Mustangs’ opener in pool play at the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.

Zack Von Berg went four for four and scored two runs for Costa Mesa (1-0), which plays today at 10 a.m. at Santiago in a pool-play game.

SANTA ANA — Brian Sankey produced seven kills to help lead the Eagles to a 25-21, 27-25, 25-14 season-opening win Friday.

Bradley Reitler, Kyle Prever and Barry Fryslie added four kills each for Estancia. Fryslie also had 11 assists.

Corona del Mar def. Woodbridge

CORONA DEL MAR — Blaine Nielsen recorded 16 kills and Gus Ellis added 15 to lead the Sea Kings to a 26-24, 23-25, 27-25, 25-11 season-opening win Friday.

Jeff Carlson had 11 kills and seven digs, while Phil Bannan had 44 assists and five blocks.

LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 11, Tesoro 5

NEWPORT BEACH — Mike Kidushim scored four goals to lead the Sea Kings to the win at Peninsula Park.

Ryan Mix, David Kidushim and Noah Molnar added two goals each for CdM (2-0).

David Kidushim scored three goals to lead the Sea Kings to a 16-3 win over Servite in their season opener. CdM freshman Kyle Canale scored the first goal for the program that’s in its first year.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Sage Hill 98, Webb 57

CLAIRMONT — In the Lightning’s nonleague meet at Webb Friday, Andrew Dorne won the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 1.09 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:21.23, which is a CIF Southern Section Division IV consideration time.

In the 100 breaststroke, Sage Hill’s Ryan Barth (1:15.26) and Jake Blitzer (1:20.63) finished one-two. The Lightning, who will swim at JSerra Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., won all the relays, the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Webb 111, Sage School 53

CLAREMONT — Sage Hill’s Jordan Smith-Newman won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 49.30 seconds and the 100 backstroke (1:17.63) in a nonleague meet at Webb Friday.

Dylan Conroy won the 100 freestyle (1:04.02) for Sage.
