Alleged rapes reported

Laguna Beach police were presented with two rape victims Thursday evening at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.

Both victims said they had been assaulted at Laguna beaches and may have been drugged prior to the alleged assaults at different times and locations, Det. Sgt. Darin Lenyi said.

The first victim was a 14-year-old Laguna Beach girl who was taken to the hospital at 8:10 p.m. by her parents after she told them she had been sexually assaulted the previous Saturday night at a South Laguna beach.

The girl claimed her assailant had given her a pill, and the next thing she remembered was waking up with her pants off and signs of sexual assault. Because it had been a week since the alleged assault, doctors could not collect physical evidence to support her claim, Lenyi said.

Sometime after 9:45 p.m., a 23-year-old woman arrived at the hospital in her underwear, hysterical and traumatized, Lenyi said.

The woman told police she had been on a first date with a man she met over the Internet and was joined at Shaw’s Cove by another man who lives in the vicinity. The three — all in their early 20s — were drinking alcohol on the beach.

The woman claimed that something may have been put into her drink, because at some point she blacked out and when she woke up her pants were off and there were alleged signs of sexual assault.

One of the men she had been drinking with called a taxicab for her, and she got into the taxi in her underwear and told the cab driver to take her to the hospital.

The woman, an Orange County resident, was treated and released several hours later, Lenyi said.

Police interviewed the two men who were with the victim at the beach and took DNA samples from them, but no arrests were made.

Both alleged incidents are under investigation, Lenyi said.
