Firefighters on Thursday battled a two-alarm blaze in the fourth-floor residential units at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. Three people were hurt, and authorities evacuated the building, Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz said.
Paramedics treated two people at the scene, and a third person was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Schulz said. That person’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, Schulz said.
The blaze was confined to one unit, Schulz said.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
Thursday’s fire was the second this month at the resort, which contains private apartments. Another blaze on the club’s fourth floor on Jan. 3 in the apartment of George Lysak, executive director of sales and marketing for the club, caused $100,000 in damage to the structure and $150,000 in damage to the apartment’s contents. No one was hurt in that fire, the cause of which was determined to be electrical, officials said.
