THE LAST WORD - EDITORIAL:Here’s to folks who dream big
- Share via
We all like to think of ourselves as a big dreamers. But sailing around the world by ourselves, well, that may be a bit too big of a dream.
Just ask Ken Barnes.
The Newport Beach man tried to do just that and found himself stuck in a storm off the coast of Chile that was not only borne of Mother Nature but of the worldwide media itself.
This self-described “private” man wanted to keep things low key and wondered aloud to his family what the fuss was all about.
Others probably felt the same way. But the story of Barnes spread across the globe faster than his limping boat because of those aforementioned dreams.
We all want to do big things. Things like climb Mount Everest, parachute from a plane, surf the biggest waves in the world and, of course, sail around the world.
We are glad Barnes is back and home safe on land. And we hope, like us, that he continues to dream big.
Just not too big.
