Roman Catholic church deserves more scrutinyFor the record and for your information, Our Lady Queen of Angels Church and School are in Newport Beach, not Corona del Mar as misrepresented in your article “CdM teacher is arrested for allegedly writing bad checks,” Jan. 9.

While I am withholding judgment on Frank Vaccaro as I believe he has the right of presumption of innocence, I believe that it is the behavior of the Roman Catholic Church itself that should be investigated in harboring criminals as they have. And I am not referring to Vaccaro, but to the hundred of priests who engaged in sexual misconduct, preying on innocent children whose identities continue to remain anonymous specifically due to the clandestine actions of Cardinal Roger Mahoney and his fellow clergymen who have and continue to harbor criminals as they have.

That is just one in a laundry list of reasons why Our Lady Queen of Angels doesn’t belong in our neighborhood and another reason why the church’s preposterous expansion plans should never have been approved by the planning commission and or the City Council that can’t see straight.

How did Pilot know to be present for man’s arrest? As a retired prosecutor, I am all too familiar with crimes similar to those alleged to have been committed by Frank Vaccaro.

What I find interesting is how Pilot photographer Kent Treptow was on scene right as Vaccaro was arrested by Huntington Beach police. How did he know to be there, at that exact time, when another city’s police officers made the arrest? Also, what is the relevance of who Vaccaro’s employer is? Does the Pilot, a.k.a. the Los Angeles Times, find it somehow more relevant because it is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church?
