BRIEFLY IN ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Museum auction tickets available

Tickets are now available for the Laguna Art Museum’s annual art auction. “Art Auction=Stimulus” will take place Saturday, Feb. 10, at the museum, 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach.

The auction will feature both established artists and rising stars in the art world, drawn primarily from throughout Southern California. Several of the artists have been featured in exhibitions at the museum, such as “100 Artists See God” and The OsCene 2006, and from solo exhibitions.

The eclectic mix of artists in the auction will reflect the museum’s exhibition schedule, which presents a blending of historical, contemporary and popular culture exhibitions throughout the year.

Festival of Arts seeks exhibitors

Artists wishing to exhibit at this summer’s Festival of Arts exhibition from July 1 to Aug. 31 are invited to submit slides and an application form by Feb. 28.

Applicants may download an application from the festival’s Website, www.LagunaFestivalofArts.org or call (949) 464-4234.

The Festival of Arts, celebrating its 75th anniversary, is a regional exhibit, accepting applications from artists residing in the following cities: Aliso Viejo, Balboa, Balboa Island, Capistrano Beach, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest (El Toro), Mission Viejo, Monarch Beach, Newport Beach, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

“The art must be original, meaning done by the applicant and not reproduced, and meticulously crafted,” said Jack Archer, exhibit and artist activities director.

Interested applicants are invited to attend a free photo jurying seminar on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd.

The seminar will highlight the “how to’s” of the process of jurying and provide tips for photographing artwork for submission.

“We encourage artists applying to attend this very informative seminar,” Archer said.

The seminar is open to all and recommended to anyone applying to the Festival.

Festival of Arts exhibitor Pat Sparkuhl will lead the seminar along with photographer Tom Lamb.

“This upcoming seminar is a must for those who are interested in applying to the Festival of Arts exhibit,” Sparkuhl said. “Included will be organization of the application process, pitfalls in photographing artwork, clear and concise ways of effectively photographing artwork, resources, and to complete the program, a helpful question and answer session.”

“It is a free opportunity to address the mysteries of submitting to the festival exhibit or any art show,” Archer said.

Film Society showings planned

The Laguna Beach Film Society continues its Friday night documentary series with two films on Jan. 12 at the Forum Theater on the grounds of the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

“Sir, No Sir,” whose film-maker will be in attendance, follows the development of the Vietnam antiwar movement from within the ranks. Also being shown the same evening is “My Dad Is 100 Years Old,” written by Isabella Rossellini as a tribute to her father, the late Italian filmmaker Roberto Rossellini, on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, the Society will present “Beautiful Dreamer,” 7 p.m. at the South Coast Cinema. For ticket information or to learn how to join the society, call (949) 494.8971, ext. 201.
