With three of the four teams in the Orange Coast League for boys’ water polo being local, the Newport-Mesa area also dominated the all-league list.
For Sage Hill, Danny Harold, Beau Caillouette, Jimmy Miller and Tucker Pettis were named first-team All-Orange Coast League. Ryan Barth, Andrew Dorne and Perry Pang were second-team All-Orange Coast League.
Costa Mesa’s John Roche, Skyler Twohig and Scott Neslage earned first-team All-Orange Coast League honors, with twin sophomores Dustin and Cody Serrano making the second team.
Estancia had Tyler Wayman make the all-Orange Coast League first team and Jeff Crosson and Danny O’Neil on the second team.
For Sage Hill’s scoring leader Caillouette (73 goals) and goalkeeper Harold (195 saves), both juniors, it was their third season on varsity but their first time being in a league to earn postseason honors.
The Lightning (16-4) were a freelance program before joining the Orange Coast League this season, but finished second in league with a 4-2 record and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs. Caillouette scored four goals in a first-round loss.
Miller, a junior, returned from last season’s Lightning team and scored three goals in the playoff game and 53 overall. Pettis, a sophomore, was in his first year on varsity and scored two goals in the playoff game and 32 overall.
Roche, a senior two-meter player for Costa Mesa, scored a team-high 79 goals for the Mustangs, who went 2-4 in Orange Coast League play and narrowly missed a playoff berth. Twohig, a junior, was right behind him with 71 goals scored.
Neslage, a senior goalie, made 313 saves on the year, recording 10 or more saves in all but six of the Mustangs’ games. The total mark broke the school record for saves in a season, previously held by current Mesa assistant Justin Taylor.
Wayman, a junior, was the leading scorer for the Eagles, who went 0-6 in league. He had eight goals in a win over La Quinta, one of two on the year for Estancia.
Laguna Beach seniors Cameron Brinkman and Peter Phelps were named co-Orange Coast League MVP for the league champion Breakers.
