Dana Hutchinson, a junior outside hitter on the Laguna Beach High girls’ volleyball team, has been named co-Player of the Year in CIF Southern Section Division II.
The squad features players from Division’s II-A and II-AA. Laguna is a member of Division II-AA.
Hutchinson shared the honor with Kimmee Roleder, a senior outside hitter from Pasadena High.
Hutchinson was one of four Breakers named to the team. Senior middle blocker Zoe Garrett, who will attend USC next fall, and sophomore setter/defensive specialist Alex Palmer were each named to the first team.
Senior setter Mychaela Miller, who will join Garrett at USC, was named to the second team.
Palmer was the only sophomore named to the team.
“Dana is very deserving of this honor, as are Zoe, Alex and Mychaela,” Laguna Coach Lance Stewart said. “Dana plays all the way around the court. She’s great as a receiver at serve, excellent on the floor as a defender and is dynamic as an attacker.
“The nice thing about Dana is that she has a ton of room to improve. She has so much potential. I’m hoping she’ll become our leader next year and help take us back to San Jose.”
Laguna played earlier this month for the Division II state title at San Jose State University. The Breakers fell in five games against Campolindo High out of Moraga, Calif., to finish the season with a 29-6 record.
Laguna Beach captured the Southern Section Division II-AA title with a sweep against Corona del Mar.
