SURFING SOAPBOX:There goes Laguna
The Laguna I remember always began with family and friends. A smile and a hello with a helping hand from a neighbor.
Now it’s been replaced by the color of green — the almighty dollar, the big homes and fancy cars.
If you need more proof, just say the words “Mar Vista.”
What is sad is that generations of Laguna-born families have now been outpriced and have since moved on and the old Laguna vibe struggles to stay alive.
In short, there goes the neighborhood. The turnover rate continues to grow, and your neighbors are nothing more than strangers.
Nothing like having new neighbors who will just walk into your front yard and begin cutting down your bamboo because they feel entitled too, because they say it obstructs their view.
Congratulations, what a way to welcome yourself to the neighborhood.
I’m not sure what is worse — all of the “for sale” signs around town or those cute colored election signs that have finally come down.
Definitely the “for sale” signs.
For the most part, we have the same council who does nothing in the way of gradual growth for our town. Or do they?
It’s your chance now, Mr. Kelly Boyd, please give this council a good swift kick in the rear. We don’t mind change as much as we despise living in a town more recognized for some lame show called “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County.”
I admit I was for the show, because I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity, and it has been for some. But there’s no way of getting around it — it’s time for MTV to get out.
It’s not so much because of the city being more expensive, it’s the attitude that comes with it.
Peace.
