NEWPORT BEACH PLANNING COMMISSION PREVIEW
- Share via
Here are some items the planning commission will consider today.
NEWPORT BAY MARINA
A developer who wants to build a mixed-use project with 27 residential units has made changes to the project, including adding parking spaces, since the commission first considered it in October. ETCO Investments is planning the Newport Bay Marina, a cluster of 11 three-story buildings with underground parking, at 2300 Newport Blvd. in Cannery Village.
The developer has added 30 parking spaces to the project and trimmed the total square footage of the development slightly. It would ultimately include 36,000 square feet of commercial space as well as 27 residences and an 18-slip commercial marina.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Planning staff members said in a report that the changes have improved the project, and they recommend the commission approve it.
HOAG MEDICAL OFFICES
The four-building Newport Technology Center has largely stood empty since it was built in 2001, but if the commission approves, some of it will become medical offices. Hoag Hospital affiliate Newport Health Care Center bought the facility in February for an undisclosed price and announced plans to use it as medical and administrative offices.
Now those plans are moving forward. The commission will consider a permit request to use 97,000 square feet as medical offices, and the remainder of the 415,500-square foot facility would be other offices and research and development facilities.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The commission probably will grant the permit, because the building has sat unoccupied for several years.
