Estancia 10, Redondo 8
COSTA MESA — Sophomore Ellie Edles swept at No. 1 singles and the Eagles’ No. 1 doubles team of junior Abby Koff and sophomore Jennifer Johnston did the same to key the CIF Southern Section Division I first-round playoff win Thursday.
It was the first Division I playoff match for Estancia, which reached the Division V quarterfinals last season.
The Eagles (13-5) will visit top-seeded Corona del Mar, which had a first-round bye, Saturday at 2 p.m.
“We’re definitely happy to get past the first round,” said Estancia Coach Rachel de los Santos.

UPLAND — Doubles propelled the Sailors in the CIF Southern Section Divsiion II first-round playoff match Thursday.
The Sailors host No. 2-seeded Great Oak of Temecula (18-0), the Southwestern League champion on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The doubles teams of Chrissy Schwartz and Natalie Small, Brittany Sowers and Sasha Dunlap as well as Avalon Sigalos and Alee Shea all swept, dropping only three games total in the process.
No. 1 singles player Alex McIntosh also swept.

NEWPORT BEACH — The top-seeded Lightning posted their first shutout of the season and also won 13 sets without giving up a game in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club Thursday.
Junior Ashley Adams and senior Sarah Geocaris swept 18 games in singles, as did the doubles team of senior Salen Andrews and sophomore Laney Tasker.
“We won the first round without losing a game; that was pretty impressive,” Sage Hill Coach A.G. Longoria said. “That set the tone. If they continue to play like that, they’ll do OK in the playoffs.”
Sage Hill (20-1) will play at St. Joseph of Lakewood. The Jesters, an at-large entry, defeated Rubidoux in the first round Thursday.

NEWPORT BEACH — Senior Katie Wells had a team-high 19 kills and six blocks in the Sailors’ 25-18, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-10 loss in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs Thursday.
Junior Jamie Heenan had 16 kills, junior Megan Munce had 13, junior Alex Penewell had 10 and senior Megan Toman had eight.
Junior Alesha Young had 55 assists and 12 digs in the Sailors’ first home loss of the season.
“This has been one of my favorite groups of seniors to coach,” said Newport Harbor Coach Dan Glenn, who finished up his 21st season. “Our one goal was to compete for a Sunset League title and we did that. We did what we wanted. We played well in our tournaments. We did some really good things this year. We have nothing to be ashamed of. It’s just tough because we worked so hard.”
Munce added a team-high 17 digs, while Heenan had 16 and juniors Cassidy Gayner and Katie Regan had 10 each.
“We had a great week and the season is over just like that,” Glenn said. “We put in a lot of time and it hurts. I’m proud of them. We fought hard.”
