2006 CALIFORNIA BIENNIAL

The Orange County Museum of Art presents the 2006 California Biennial, an event with over 150 works consisting of large-scale installations, sculpture, paintings, works on paper, wall drawing, photographs, film and video art. Exhibition will be in Newport Beach location, at 850 San Clemente Drive, and in Costa Mesa at 3333 Bear St. Hours vary.

EARN YOUR BADGE

The Girl Scout Council of Orange County presents its 2006 Urban Adventure, Black and White Badge Bash at the Turnip Rose in Costa Mesa from 6 to 10 p.m. Guests at this adult-only fundraiser will try to earn one-of-a kind badges by testing their skills at activities including martini-making, cigar-rolling, and pizza-tossing, while enjoying cocktails, food, a live band and silent auction. BAND TOURNAMENT

Come out and support high school music programs at the South Coast Invitational Marching Band Tournament hosted by Costa Mesa High School. BACK BAY WALKING TOUR

The Naturalists and Friends of Newport Bay encourage visitors to experience the wildlife and plants of the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve on this free guided tour. Tours begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of East Bluff Drive and Back Bay Road, and last approximately two hours. The walk is on a paved route, and moves at an easy pace, but wear comfortable shoes. “Dia de la Raza”, a festival celebrating Latin music, dance and food is free and open to the public at Orange Coast College from noon to 6 p.m. Entertainment includes performances by the Ballet Hispanico of New York, and the Mariachi Divas. CELEBRITY CHEF APPEARANCE

Cookbook author and celebrity chef Tyler Florence will be at the Williams-Sonoma store at South Coast Plaza from 12 to 2 p.m. Florence, who has had his own show on the Food Network, and is a regular on the Today Show, will be signing copies of his newest book, “Tyler’s Ultimate: Brilliant Simple Food to Make Any Time”. CLEVER COMEDY

The play, “Sly Fox”, written by Larry Gelbart, author of “Mash” and “Tootsie”, opens at the Robert B. Moore Theatre at Orange Coast College. Set in San Francisco during the Gilded Age, the plot centers around a wealthy miser and his three conniving heirs. Advance tickets are $8; $10 at the door.
