OCC tops Gauchos

COSTA MESA — Ashley Boyer and Allie Nelson both scored goals within a one-minute span early in the second half to propel the Orange Coast College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Saddleback in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both schools Tuesday.

Boyer’s goal in the 49th minute came with an assist from Stacey Shoop, while Diana Johnson assisted Shoop’s goal in the 50th minute.

Katie Johnson had three saves to preserve the shutout for the Pirates (4-2, 1-0 in conference).

Saddleback fell to 2-3, 0-1.

The Pirates return to action Friday at 3 p.m. at Orange Empire foe Santa Ana.

In community college men’s soccer action:

Host Orange Coast College fell to Mt. San Antonio, 3-0, in a nonconference game Tuesday.

The Mounties erupted after a scoreless first half as Francis Yepez, Gerardo Martinez and Derek Lindsey all found the net for the visitors, who improved to 6-0-1.

Orange Coast fell to 2-3.

The Pirates are at Glendale Friday.
