The standard for philanthropy

He’s famous for getting professional athletes plenty of dollars for what they do. He’s been behind big names such as Steve Young and Troy Aikman.
He’s famous for being the consultant on the movie “Jerry Maguire,” which had the catch phrase “Show me the money.”
He’s famous for many things. But what Leigh Steinberg is important for are the dollars he gets to people who need them most — for showing the right people the money.
Later this month, Steinberg will become the first recipient of Project Access’ keys to success award, which the nonprofit created to honor business people who are active volunteers.
The group couldn’t have picked a more deserving member of this community. Among Steinberg’s involvements, many done with his wife Lucy, are sponsorship of the Spirit Run, which raised money for Newport Beach schools, and the Newport Beach Film Festival. He also has long encouraged his athlete clients to give back of their time and money.
Naming Steinberg the first honoree also should raise the profile of the seven-year-old Project Access, which helps low-income families and seniors with a variety of education, health and social service needs.
The Newport Beach nonprofit does much-needed work throughout the county, and in its efforts to keep the charitable dollars flowing its way, having the Steinberg seal of approval should keep Project Access in the money.
All in all, it makes for a perfect team.
