Locals finish ninth

LOCALS FINISH NINTH
The Orange County Diamond Dawgs, featuring players from Newport Beach and Laguna Niguel, finished ninth at the Cooperstown Dreams Tournament, completed Aug. 4 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The Diamond Dawgs went 7-0 in the preliminary round, outscoring their opponents a combined 91-12. They finished 8-1 in the 96-team event.
The team hit 21 home runs in the tournament, led by Bobby Hearn with eight, Trevor Scott with five and Eric Hsieh with four.
Brent Lawson led the team in runs scored, and Parker Johnson and Sam Wilbur came back from injuries to contribute.
Also contributing were Michael Carroll, Brian Choi, Trey Ferketic, Nick Hsieh, Connor Landberg and Zach Sigler.
The team’s coaches: John Wilbur, Jim Lawson, Don Johnson, Mike Sigler, Kenny Hsieh and Bob Hearn.
