PUNT, PASS AND KICK
Costa Mesa Pop Warner Football will be playing host to an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Costa Mesa High.
All boys and girls ages 8 through 15 are eligible to compete.
There are four age divisions: 8- and 9-year-olds, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15.
The top three in each division will receive ribbons and the winners qualify for a sectional competition.
There is no cost to participate and a raffle will be held for two Super Bowl tickets, room and board.
Costa Mesa Pop Warner is requesting that children pre-register and bring a copy of their birth certificate.

RIPTIDE HOLDS TRYOUTS
The Newport Beach Riptide Gold 18 travel softball team will be holding open tryouts for its 2006-07 season roster Saturday and Aug. 27 at Bonita Creek Park from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

UCI DROPS EXHIBITION
IRVINE — The UC Irvine women’s soccer team lost, 3-2, to visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday in an exhibition game.
The Toros scored the winning goal on a penalty kick with 11 seconds left.
UCI, down, 2-0, in the 58th minute, rallied to tie the game on goals by senior Lauryn Birkinshaw.
Juniors Kim Horn and Frankee Kelly had assists for the Anteaters, who open the regular season Aug. 25 at home against Arizona State at 7 p.m.
BALDWIN SERVICE SET
A memorial service for Grant Baldwin, preceded by a ceremony at sea, is scheduled Aug. 28 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
Baldwin, longtime communications officer and the radio voice of the Transpac Yacht Race, died of cancer last month. He was 79.
The clubhouse ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
