She’s directed the last three musicals at Golden West College, and now Martie Ramm has made her association with the Huntington Beach school official.
Starting next month, Ramm will join fellow director Tom Amen and department chair Susan Thomas Babb as full-time instructors at Golden West.
“She will bring added creative energy to our production team as my colleague, Tom Amen, and I continue to build an ambitious professional training program for our students,” Babb remarked.
Ramm has served in recent seasons as an adjunct faculty member at GWC, teaching theater classes and directing the school’s annual musical. Hers were the guiding hands behind “The Boy Friend,” “Guys and Dolls” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
Ramm brings Broadway credits (chorus roles in “Evita”) to her Golden West duties, as well as starring roles in London’s West End productions, as Cassie in “A Chorus Line” and the title role of “Sweet Charity.” She’s also toured nationally in “Annie” and “Show Boat.”
She performed for Disneyland and Walt Disney Productions for many years, starting as a dancing Mary Poppins and graduating to directing and choreographing. She then became an associate production executive for Disney Theatrical Productions, supervising the Japanese and Australian shows, and was production manager for the Los Angeles company of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
Ramm’s credits as director and choreographer are extensive, including productions of “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Beyond Therapy,” “Cabaret,” “Nine,” “The Fantasticks,” “West Side Story,” “Romantic Comedy,” “Company” and “A Grand Night for Singing.” Several of her productions have been honored with local theater awards.
Next season, she’ll direct a workshop production of “Uncommon Women and Others” and the Mainstage Theater production of “The Secret Garden.”
