The 17-year-old was helping push the car when a woman in a black Chevrolet Impala drifted over and hit him. The teenager was standing at the back of the car.

The driver of the Impala, 30-year-old Alicia Parker of Costa Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and booked at Orange County Jail, said Lt. Jim Kaminsky of the Newport Beach Police Dept.

This is the second accident in Newport-Mesa within a week that has resulted in serious injury from an alleged DUI.

Tuesday, a 6-year-old old boy was killed on the Corona del Mar Freeway (73), where his mother was allegedly driving under the influence.

National Guard dispatched to JWAMembers of the California National Guard are expected to arrive at John Wayne Airport sometime today, an airport spokeswoman said.

But things were back to normal at the airport on Friday, after travelers suffered through long lines the day before, when officials increased security screening after British authorities said they foiled a terrorist plot.

There were no delays Friday, and airport security was back to its normal wait time at the airport, John Wayne Airport spokeswoman Rachel Gibson said.

The National Guard will have a “minimal responsibility” at the airport and will not be visible to the public, Gibson said.

It’s unknown how long the National Guard will be at the airport, Gibson said.

After authorities Thursday said they stopped a terrorist plot to blow up American planes using liquid explosives, the national alert level remained high, and strict restrictions against carrying liquids aboard planes remained in place Friday.

Engine-room fire damages 98-foot yachtA fire in the engine room of 98-foot yacht on Newport Harbor late Thursday caused several thousand dollars in damage, fire officials said.

No one was injured.

The fire broke out at 7:38 p.m. aboard the yacht Jelly Bean II, from Redondo Beach, moored near the 200 block of East Coast Highway.

Firefighters contained the flames to the engine room and used a thermal imaging camera to seek out any hot spots that could flare up.

Newport Beach firefighters, lifeguards and the Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol responded to the blaze.

Fire investigators said the fire started from several batteries in the yacht’s engine room.
