PHOTO OF THE WEEK ‘INSTANT REPLAY’

Credit: DON LEACH / DAILY PILOT Caption: Little League games can make for some great action. On this day, when Costa Mesa played Corona del Mar, one little guy they called “Stubbs” was caught in a run-down and found himself facing the second baseman, who had the ball. Instead of giving up to the tag, he decided to hold-up, spin around, and avoid the tagger ? who just held his spot as if he made the tag. Stubbs made second base. The second baseman acted as if he made the tag, and from the umpire’s angle it was hard to tell. I could see on my camera’s LCD screen that the runner was clearly safe and the baseman missed the tag. A great move by Stubbs. The second baseman held a poker face. Some yelled that he was out. Some said “safe.” After conferring, the umpires got it right and play ensued. ?
