SCGA AMATEUR QUALIFYING

UC Irvine’s Tim Cha, Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club member Tim Moyers and Costa Mesa resident Michael Wanamaker were unable to advance out of local qualifying at Temecula Creek Golf Resort on Wednesday.

Cha came the closest, shooting a two-under-par 70 to tie for second with nine others. He ended up being the odd man out, as the other nine qualified or earned alternate status.

Moyers tied for 20th with a one-over-par 73, and Wanamaker shot 74 to tie for 29th.

WOMEN’S PUBLIC LINKS QUALIFYING

UC Irvine’s Carling Cho was the medalist at sectional qualifying for the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships at The SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.

Cho fired a one-under-par 71 to win by a stroke. Selanee Henderson, Cho’s UCI teammate, also advanced with a two-over 74, tying for fifth.

The Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships will be held June 20-25 at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo.
