Seats on arts and planning commissions

The city is accepting applications to the arts commission, which has four seats available, and the planning commission, which has three.

The arts commission is a seven-member body appointed by the City Council to advise the council on issues related to the artistic aspects of the city. Commissioners serve a two-year term and are paid $70 per month. An alternate member is appointed to a one-year term. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m.

The planning commission is a five-member body appointed by the City Council for the purpose of reviewing and advising the Council on items related to the development and modification of land uses. The commissioners serve a two-year term and are paid $110 per month. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. In addition, applicants should expect a substantial time commitment with regard to study sessions and preparation time.

Applications are available at the city’s website and at the city clerk’s office. They must be received by the clerk by 5 p.m. May 30. All applicants will be interviewed by the City Council at 6 p.m. June 6 in council chambers.
