Sea Kings’ Su one shot shy

PALM SPRINGS ? Corona del Mar High junior David Su shot three-over-par 75 and missed advancing by one stroke at the CIF Southern Section individual boys’ golf finals Monday at the Canyon Country Club.

Su was five-over on the first five holes, but righted himself to narrowly miss earning one of 28 bids to the Southern California Golf Assn. Tournament on June 1 in Murrieta.

“He was a little errant off the tee at the beginning, but he brought it back,” Sea Kings Coach Mike Starkweather said.

Su won the Pacific Coast League title on May 4 at the El Prado Golf Course.

He then finished tied for fourth at the CIF Southern Regional on May 15 to advance to Monday’s event.
